US high school state swim champ comes out as gay

LAST UPDATED // Wednesday, 25 June 2014 18:51 Written by // Cec Busby

A Colorado high school student who holds the state title in backstroke and butterfly has come out as gay on his Facebook and Twitter page.

16-year-old Jack Thorne said he had been struggling for months trying to figure out when, where and how to make his announcement, before finally deciding to let the world know via  social media.

The teenager said he made his proclamation as he wanted younger teens struggling with their sexual identity to know it is ok to come out and that it gets better.
