NSW win game 1 in Origin Series opener

LAST UPDATED // Thursday, 29 May 2014 13:31

The State of Origin kicked off at Suncorp Stadium this week, where New South Wales finally broke their losing streak and emerged victorious against Queensland with a final score of 12-8.

The boys in Blue delivered a walloping to the Maroons, presenting an unrelenting display of defence that enabled them to resist the onslaught of the mighty Maroon forwards. The Maroons attacked the Blues' try line with raid after raid but couldn't break through.

Man of the match, Parramatta fullback Jarryd Hayne, was tremendous in what was a near perfect game for New South Wales; Hayne looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.

Injuries will be a talking point of the game with Queensland’s Cooper Cronk's broken arm, Cameron Smith's ankle and New South Wales' winger Brett Morris' dislocated shoulder - all will most likely be missing from NRL for some time.

New South Wales 12 (J Hayne, B Morris tries; T Hodkinson 2 goals) def. Queensland 8 (D Boyd 2 tries) at Suncorp Stadium.
