Michael Sam finally takes to the field
Openly gay American footballer Michael Sam finally took to the field for his first professional game on the weekend.
Sam made headlines around the world when he became the first openly gay player to be drafted by a major league football team.
As a member of the St Louis Rams, Sam played in the pre-season last year but was cut from the team before the regular season.
He transferred to the Dallas Cowboys but remained on the benches there, too.
Having moved to Canada to join the Montreal Alouettes, Sam's career looked in doubt when he took personal leave at the start of the season.
Sam played in defence on the weekend against the Ottawa Redblacks, with the Alouettes being defeated narrowly at 26 points to 23.
