Grand final glory for Sydney Rangers Football Club
The Sydney Rangers Football Club is revelling in a great 2016 season so far with one team winning a grand final and another set for an exciting premiership showdown.
The club’s A team won the Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA) grand final last Saturday, marking the first time a Rangers team has even won the CDSFA trophy.
Rangers As were the only team in all the CDSFA divisions to go the entire season undefeated and clinched the grand final in style after previous close games with second placed Marrickville B.

Having drawn twice in the regular season and sealing a narrow 1-0 semi final win over their grand final opposition, Rangers were able to enjoy a relatively comfortable 3-0 win in the season’s showpiece, thanks to early goals from Nick Nurlan and Oscar Wong.
Rangers were tactically spot on and very disciplined in their approach as Marrickville never looked like being able to recover from the early goals. The Rangers defence stood firm against anything Marrickville had to offer and Rangers continued to have the better chances in the second half.
The third goal put the game beyond any doubt as the Marrickville keeper made a terrible mistake to allow a cross from Dan Wilson to softly cross the line.
The final whistle sparked scenes of celebration, relief and pride as many of the clubs members and supporters joined together as the Rangers A Coach Ben Bagshaw and Team Captain Duncan Jones lifted the Division 6 trophy.

“I speak for everyone at Sydney Rangers Football Club when I say, we couldn’t be prouder of our history making Rangers A team,” SRFC President Joseph Roppolo told SX.
“Coach Ben Bagshaw, Captain Duncan Jones and all the boys went the whole 2016 season without losing a single game including beating a strong Marrickville B team twice in finals footy on the way to lifting the CDSFA Div 6 trophy.
“They have cemented themselves in Rangers history as our very own ‘Invincibles’ but a win for these boys is also a win for every Rangers player over the last 10 years of competitive winter comp teams with each generation building on the last.”
All eyes are now on the club’s 35s team who are taking on the Leichardt Saints in the over 35 Division 5 grand final.
“The match kicks off at 12:20pm at Henley Park #1 (Portland Street, Enfield) and we are hoping for a big sideline supportive crowd to make some noise!”
