The Block casts its first ever lesbian couple
Popular series The Block will feature its first lesbian couple since the show’s debut in 2003.
The Channel Nine series has announced Melbourne couple Julia, 31, and Sasha, 42, who have been together for four years, will join the show this season.
While Julia, a property stylist, and Sasha, an account executive, are the first lesbian couple gay couple, Gavin and Warren, competed on the renovating show in 2004.
Co-creator Julian Cress said:
“Gav and Waz were wonderful guys and amazing competitors. They had so much natural energy and good humour. Julia and Sasha have all the personality that Gav and Waz brought to the show.”

This year the competitors have renovated a Port Melbourne Art Deco factory.
“The building is an absolute ripper. It is our first art deco project. It is a really wonderful period in the history of design but incredibly challenging for contestants to get their head around in 2016. The largest of apartment is 270 square metres. That is a good size larger than your Australian home.”
The Block is expected to go head-to-head with the first season of Survivor Australia in the 7.30pm weeknight timeslot after the Rio Olympics.
