Evan Rachel Wood speaks out about being sexually abused
Openly bisexual actress Evan Rachel Wood has spoken out about being sexually abused and the violence in her TV series, Westworld.
Wood wrote a letter to Rolling Stone in which she revealed she has been raped twice, “By a significant other while we were together. And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar,” Wood wrote.
Wood said she felt compelled to come out about her experiences of sexual abuse after Donald Trump won the US election.
"I don't believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer,"
Westworld has come up against criticism that the show depicts gratuitous violence towards women, however Wood said her roles as an android named Dolores has helped her come to terms with the sexual abuse she faced in the past.
"I mean, your demons never fully leave," Wood said. "But when you're using them to create something else, it almost gives them a purpose and feels like none of it was in vain. I think that's how I make peace with it."
Wood came out as bisexual in 2011 and has been a staunch and outspoken advocate of issues and discrimination bisexual people experience.
