Westboro Church picketers were met with messages of sympathy when they came to picket at New Zealand singer Lorde’s concert in Kansas City over the weekend.
Lorde appraised her fans of Westboro’s intention to picket and suggested they wear rainbow clothes to her concert as a sign of support for LGBTI people.
Fans took things one step further however, meeting Westboro’s picket (which consisted of its usual God Hates Fags signs) with messages of sympathy for the group, whose leader, Fred Phelps passed away last week.
Megan Coleman, the woman behind the sign (pictured) said: “‘We realised that it wasn't so much about antagonising them but sending out the countered safe that we are here for people who need that message and need that positivity’ she said.
Another group held up a sign saying ‘Live your life and be awesome’.
