Watch: Transgender six year old’s remarkable story

LAST UPDATED // Tuesday, 03 June 2014 15:00 Written by // Cec Busby

The Whittington family have uploaded a video to their YouTube account explaining the journey of their six year old son Ryland, who was born a girl but identifies as a boy.

Born deaf but not diagnosed until he was a year old, Ryland’s first words after learning to speak were ‘I am a boy!’.

Initially his parents assumed it was a phase, but Ryland’s insistence he was a boy did not go away.

The video chronicles his family’s realisation that Ryland is transgender and after seeking advice, they took steps towards helping him transition to his true identity.
