Vietnam Pride a success
300 people took to the streets of Hanoi on Sunday to celebrate LGBTI pride at Vietnam’s third annual Pride event. The theme for this year was 'Together' and hundreds took to their bicycles, rainbow flags flying, to show their support.
The Vietnamese government had recently been in talks to allow same–sex couples to marry, but progress on the bill has stalled. Currently polling shows one in three Vietnamese people support same-sex marriage.
Many of those taking part in this year’s pride event wore t-shirts emblazoned with messages supporting equal love.
This year’s pride activities also encompassed several forums as well as the Pride ride. PFLAG Vietnam had a strong presence at this year’s event, running a forum urging families and communities to accept their LGBTI children.
