Wikileaks whistleblower to fight US Army over refusal to allow her transition
Former Army private, Chelsea Manning, has declared her intention to take the US Army to court over its lack of support surrounding her transition.
Manning who was assigned as male at birth but identifies as female, was tried as a man by the US government and sentenced to 35 years confinement for leaking over 700,000 secret military documents.
Although Manning came out as a trans woman during her sentencing the Army has chosen to hold her at a men’s military prison.
Manning says since her imprisonment, prison officials are forcing her to dress as a man.
In a letter posted to her support website, Manning said her attorney David Combs is seeking to assist Manning in receiving hormone therapy treatments.
The Army Medical Command has since responded prisoners are allowed HRT at the prison.
