Forum at Wickham this Monday to discuss Valley violence

CREATED ON // Sunday, 04 May 2014 Author // Andrew Shaw

The Queensland AIDS Council (QuAC) and MP for Brisbane Central Robert Cavallucci will host a forum this Monday, May 5 at 6.30pm for the LGBTI community to discuss homophobic, transphobic and alcohol related violence in the Valley.

The forum will be held at The Wickham Hotel and all members of the LGBTI community, particularly those living in inner-city Brisbane, are invited.

Discussion will focus on the Queensland Government’s new ‘Safe Night Out’ strategy.

It will also discuss what research says about homophobic and transphobic violence in Queensland and how the community can work with policy and government to ensure we stay safe.

In addition to representatives from QuAC and the police, the community will have an opportunity to engage with health and violence experts and policymakers about the issue of homophobic, transphobic and alcohol/drug related violence, specifically the LGBTI community’s experience of this issue.
