WATCH: Maxi's music clip with cross-dressing boy addresses emotive themes

A cross-dressing boy is featured in Melbourne synth-pop singer Maxi's latest video clip, Walking with the Animals.

The decision to use a boy dressing as a girl was an organic one, which served as a parallel storyline to the emotions Maxi was conveying within the song.

“The song was written at a time in my life when I felt really unsure of what I was doing. Honestly, I felt quite scared," Maxi explains.

"It’s about this experience and also about feeling lost and disconnected from people.

“The boy in the video clip feels the same way, and finds the courage to step out of his boring suburban life and be who he really wants.”

The term "cross-dressing" should be erased from our vocabulary. Clothes are just pieces of patterned fabric cut into different shapes. Who cares who wears what?
