WATCH: Bronski Beat's LGBT smash reprised for song's 30th anniversary

Singer Jimmy Somerville has released a haunting acoustic version of the Bronski Beat classic Smalltown Boy, marking the 30th anniversary of the song's release.

The dance classic was a hit in the 80s for Brit synthpop trio Bronski Beat and went on to become a gay anthem, addressing themes of family rejection and homophobia.

Somerville's acoustic version is a far-cry from the original, backed only by soft piano, without the pulsating sythesizers, but still packs an emotional punch.

Smalltown Boy Reprise (2014) is available on iTunes.
