Melbourne Rovers get cosy with soccer star Harry Kewell

LAST UPDATED // Wednesday, 30 April 2014 12:02 Written by // James Findlay

The Melbourne Rovers were welcome guests to the final Melbourne Hearts A-League game for the 2013/14 season last week.

The special invite also happened to be a momentous occasion for Socceroo legend, Harry Kewell, who played his final game before retirement.

This came in the week when Australia's four main football codes came together to support anti-homophobia and inclusiveness policies in their sports, a campaign which Kewell has proudly put his name to, as part of the ‘You Can Play’ video.

“It is significant that Heart, a team playing in Australia's professional football league, welcome Rovers gay and lesbian players as valued guests” Melbourne Rovers President, Heath Wilson said.

“Thank you to Melbourne Heart for the opportunity to walk on to the AAMI Park turf in the middle of this important match” he said.

The Rovers men and women’s teams are gearing up for the next season, and any players interested in joining are encouraged to visit melbourneroverssc.org.au.
