Major parties answer your questions at a community forum
Peak community organisations are holding a community forum where the three major parties answer your questions
The Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby (VGLRL), in partnership with Transgender Victoria and Organisation Intersex International (OII) Australia is hosting an election forum with representatives of the ALP, Coalition and Greens on Saturday August 31.
Building on an election survey sent earlier this month to the three major parties, members of the LGBTI community can nominate a question to be asked of any or all of the three party representatives at the forum. Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus will represent the ALP, Coalition MP Kelly O'Dwyer and Greens Deputy Leader Adam Bandt will state their respective party positions on LGBTI issues and respond to the community questions.
VGLRL convener Anna Brown said that being fully informed on issues that matter to you is an important part of democracy.
“Along with the survey results, this forum will ensure voters are clear on the major parties’ positions on a range of issues affecting LGBTI people,” she said.
The forum will be convened by a community panel with Sally Goldner, Tony Briffa and Cory Irlam among representatives of each organisation and who will ask the questions of the party representatives.
Responses by the three parties to the survey will be collated and assessed to indicate if each parties fully support, partially support, don’t support or didn’t answer the questions presented and will be posted at the VGLRL website: vglrl.org.au/lgbti2013
Questions for the panel can also be submitted via the website.
Questions will be shortlisted on the day before the forum so people should be submitted by Friday August 30.
The forum will be hosted by comedian Toby Halligan and commences at 3pm at DnM Bar, 119 Commercial Road, Prahran.
