The boys are getting in on the Burlesque action with Oscar Klein Tusse, Kristina (Pretty Boy B.) Crème and Jolie Mystique selected as the finalists in the 2012 South Australian Mr Boylesque competition as part of this year’s Fringe.

‘Boylesque’ has evolved over many years as a form of burlesque performed by male dancers instead of female, and has emerged in its modern form to become a style of adult entertainment consisting of high levels of satire.

Boylesque finalist and Feast Festival performer Jolie Mystique, AKA Ashton, told blaze he is nervous and excited about his first time performing in the competition.

“I know the boylesque group in Melbourne are professional and I can't compare to the artists from the show Briefs that were in Fringe and Feast,” he said.

“I’m expecting some giggles and maybe some tears but…I'll just be thankful I’m in the same place as these stars.”

Oscar Klein Tusse, AKA Dirk, is another first time boylesque performer vying for the crown and said he is lucky to be amongst the South Australian finalists.

“My Burlesque Style is of course Vintage but with unique twists to make me stand out from the crowd,” Dirk said on the Miss Burlesque Australia website.

“I can be male, I can be female and sometimes the audience won’t know what I am, which always pleases all.”

The third finalist, Kristina Crème, also performed in the 2011 Feast Festival and is set to challenge stereotypes in a unique sense of movement.

The performers will have their final chance to take out the South Australian Mr and Miss Burlesque titles as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival on March 10 at the Star Theatre on Sir Donald Bradman Drive.

Each performer is expected to complete three unique acts in the state heats with the judges seeking for someone who produces modern and traditional styles of burlesque.

The winners from each state heat who successfully and comically blend the modern and traditional elements will be representing their state at the national titles in Sydney with the return flights included in their prizes.

National finals will again be held in the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on April 21 where over $10,000 in prizes are on offer.

The national winner of the Miss and Mr Burleque Australia competition have the chance to visit the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas as part of their prize.
