Special General Meeting for ACSA

The AIDS Council of South Australia will be holding a Special General Meeting on Tuesday March 12 to address recent membership concerns.

An email was sent to all members of the AIDS Council on Friday February 15, a copy of which was seen by blaze.

The email states: “The purpose of the meeting is to inform and discuss with the membership of the council the current financial status of the organisation including a full report from the Board on its proposed plan for the future of ACSA, its structure, finances and management.”

The meeting will also discuss specific topics such as: “the establishment of a non-government funded organisation; the staffing work and financing of this organisation; the transfer of current ACSA staff to this organisation and the outsourcing of their skills”.

Also under discussion will be the establishment of a clinic on ACSA premises and the accommodation of Gay & Lesbian Community Services and the Darling House Community Library.

Last December, former CEO Shane Dinnison was dismissed from his role and since then former Chair of the Board Erik Michielsen has being acting CEO until a new CEO could be appointed, while board MEMBER and long-time member of the AIDS Council Heather Keene is currently standing in as Acting Chair of the Board.

“I think it’s a good thing the Board has called a Special General Meeting,” one council member told gaynewsnetwork.

“I’ve had some people say to me they didn’t know what was going on, and that sort of thing, so it will be good for everyone to know what’s happening, all be on the same page so to speak. So that’s a positive thing.”
