UK teacher resigns after parents complain gay is not ok
An assistant head teacher at a Birmingham Primary School has resigned after complaints from parents regarding his teaching methods, which included classes that suggested it is OK to be gay.
The teacher, Andrew Moffat, is himself a gay man and has penned several books and articles on homophobia and how to challenge homophobia in schools by teaching children to be tolerant.
Moffat is said to have resigned last December regarding disputes between himself and Muslim and Christian parents, who had complained about his teachings. He will finish up his post at Birmingham’s Chilwell Croft Academy at the end of the month.
Moffat was a teacher at the school for the past fiver years. His book Challengng Homophobia in Primary Schools has been used in the school curriculum for several years. Moffat also trained teachers on ways to identify and prevent homophobic bullying.
