UK singer Sam Smith uses music video to come out
Described by Katy Perry as the male Adele, UK pop singer Sam Smith has released his debut album and has told critics the album is about his unrequited love for a man.
The 22-year-old has just released his first single from the album/ The track ‘Leave Your Lover’ sees Smith pining for a guy who is already going out with someone else.
In an interview with The Fader, the singer said the album is all about unrequited love.
“In the Lonely Hour is about a guy that I fell in love with last year and he didn’t love me back. I think I’m over it now, but I was in a very dark place. I kept feeling lonely in the fact that I hadn’t felt love before.
“I told him about it recently, and obviously it was never going to go the way I wanted it to go, because he doesn’t love me.’
While Smith’s confession will undoubtedly earn him some new LGBTI fans, nonetheless he says he’s not in the music business to talk about his sexuality and he hopes his music will appeal to everyone.
"I’ve tried to be clever with this album, because it’s also important to me that my music reaches everybody. I’ve made my music so that it could be about anything and everybody— whether it’s a guy, a female or a goat—and everybody can relate to that.
