UK audience complain about drag act on Britain’s Got Talent

LAST UPDATED // Friday, 06 June 2014 09:28 Written by // Cec Busby

Ofcom has received several complaints from UK TV viewers after the weekend’s broadcast of Britain’s Got Talent. Viewers believed the drag act, La Voix, was inappropriate for family viewing and should not have been seen on TV' til after 9pm.

La Voix and the London Gay Big Band were the first cab off the rank in Saturday’s semi-final, performing at 7pm. The popular drag queen delivered a powerhouse rendition of ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’.

Stefan Doering, founder and manager of the London Gay Big Band, told Gay Star News he was “saddened and disappointed”.

“There is absolutely nothing offensive, crude or objectionable about our act. Our purpose is to entertain and perform our music - regardless of what “costume” the lead vocalist is wearing,” Doering said.

Despite the complaints from a handful of viewers, Doering said feedback had been positive.
