Turkey bans Grindr
Visiting Turkey and hoping for a hook up ? Dont expect to use popular app, Grindr, to help you find love on the run as Turkey’s Criminal Court has banned the app as a “protection measure”.
As of September 10, the app has been banned and is no long accessible, according to Turkish LGBTI association KAOS GL.
Users attempting to access the app receive a message saying the Telecommunications Communication Presidency has implemented the measure.
Huffington Post reported the court’s decision is yet to be published therefore LGBTI rights activists are unable to explain the reason for the censorship,
Hayriye Kara, a lawyer for KAOS GL told Huffington Post “It is most likely related to ‘general morality’, an ambiguous term used often against trans sex workers.”
