Transgender teen who faked assault could be charged

LAST UPDATED // Friday, 07 March 2014 13:31 Written by // Cec Busby

A California transgender teen who claimed earlier in the week he was beaten up in a school bathroom has since recanted his story and may now face charges.

Police say they have yet to decide whether to file charges against the 15-year-old after detectives found no evidence to back the teenager’s claims of the attack.

On Monday the student told officers he was leaving a boy's bathroom when three other boys he did not know, pushed him inside a toilet stall and attacked him.

However investigating officers could not substantiate elements of his statement, including the time frame, and called attention to the fact the student lacked any physical injuries to his head, face and hands.

The student later acknowledged he had made up the story during a follow-up interview with police.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, could now face charges for filing a false report.
