Tom Hardy to play gay gangster twins in Legend

Dark Knight Rises and Inception star Tom Hardy will play not one, but two reportedly gay gangsters in the film Legend.

Brian Helgeland’s biopic follows former underworld siblings Ronnie and Reggie Kray as they embark on a reign of terror through 1960s London. Hardy has been tasked with portraying both underworld figures, although it is unknown how much, if any, of the storyline will reflect claims that both siblings were gay.

Hardy is no stranger to playing gay onscreen with a previous role in Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla as a closeted gay. He’ll also play Elton John in an upcoming biopic on the singer’s life.

In 2008, Attitude Magazine quizzed Hardy on whether he’d had sexual relations with men. He mused:

“As a boy? Of course I have. I'm an actor for fuck's sake. I'm an artist. I've played with everything and everyone. But I'm not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me. ... To me it just doesn't compute now I'm into my 30s and it doesn't do it for me and I'm done experimenting."
