Tas election forums to canvas LGBTI issues
A trio of LGBTI organisations will host election forums this week to canvas the community on LGBTI issues.
Members from the Liberal, Labor and the Greens parties will be in attendence to answer community members' questions regarding key policies of importance to LGBTI people.
Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group spokesperson, Rodney Croome, said, the LGBTI community wants an inclusive government – so the forums were a great opportunity to see where parties stand on key issues.
"The fact all three parliamentary parties are participating in our forums is an encouraging sign,” said Croome.
"Same-sex marriage will be a prominent discussion point, but I also expect a range of other issues to be raised, including support services, school anti-bullying programs and transgender equality."
The forums are being organised by Rainbow Communities Tasmania, the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group and the Amnesty Human Rights Queer Network (HRQN).
The Hobart forum will be at 6pm on Tuesday February 18th at the McDougall Bdg in Battery Point. The Launceston forum will be at 6pm on Friday February 21st at the Newnham Campus of the University of Tasmania.
