Stay in with friends and raise much-needed funds for BGF
This November, gather some friends, host a dinner and help raise monies for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation with their new fundraising initiative. Reg Domingo reports.
The rise in new HIV infections has led to more people accessing the services of HIV support agencies.
According to David Riddell, CEO of the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, the organisation has experienced a 15 per cent increase in the number of clients seeking support.
As such, in the lead up to World AIDS Day, BGF is launching a new short-term fundraising project.
“Funds are urgently needed so BGF can continue to provide support needed by vulnerable people living with HIV,” Riddell said. “For this reason, we have introduced the Big Baked Dinner.”
During the month of November, members of the community are encouraged to stay in for a night, share a meal with friends and donate the money normally spent on a night out, to help fund vital services supporting people living with HIV.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association Mark Haines said the initiative was a great way for the community to provide support to those living with HIV.
“BGF works hard to obtain the medication people living with HIV on a low-income need to get better, return to work and live as normal a life as they can, and we should support this as much as possible.
“It’s only one night, and I’d like to call on our members and those whose lives have been affected by HIV to either host or attend a dinner, as well as donate, so that the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation can continue to provide much-needed support to those in need,” Haines said.
Participants can get involved by either hosting a dinner, attending a dinner or donating online.
Hosts are not restricted to just dinners. Whether it be cocktail parties, BBQs, a morning tea at work or a picnic in the park, the idea is to have fun with friends and raise money for a good cause.
Those attending dinners can make donations, offer to bring a dish or fundraise on behalf of the host.
