Sara Gilbert says she realised she was gay after dating Big Bang’s Johnny Galecki
Sara Gilbert, former child star and host of popular US talk show, The Talk. has confessed she first realised she was gay while dating her Roseanne co-star Johnny Galecki (Big Bang Theory).
Gilbert admits she would often get depressed as a teen after embarking on snogfests with Galecki.
She told The Talk’s viewers, “I thought he was super cute and I had a total crush on him. And we started dating and he would come over and we would, like, make out, and then I would start to get depressed.
“I eventually told him I thought it was about my sexuality and he was super sweet about it.”
Gilbert first came out in 2010. At the time she was in a relationship with TV producer Allison Adler. The pair had two children together, but split in 2011. Gilbert is now engaged to 4NonBlondes' singer Linda Perry.
Gilbert says when she was younger she was fearful of what coming out might do to her career.
“I always felt so scared. If it came out, what could happen? Could I lose my career? Will I ever be able to play a straight role again?”
The star admits she told her story as she wanted people to know sometimes you struggle with your sexuality but it’s going to be OK.
“I want people to know there can still be a struggle with it and that’s okay. It’s a process and there can be a part of you that doesn’t want to feel different or feel scared.”
