R. Kelly's youngest child comes out as transgender
RnB star R.Kelly's son Jay has come out as transgender on social media with support from his mother.
The 13-year-old who was born as Jaya and now goes by Jay is the youngest child of singer R. Kelly who is divorced from Jay's mother, reality TV star Drea Kelly. Reportedly the singer has not yet reached out to Jay.
Coming out recently on Instagram, Jay this week answered anonymously submitted questions from users on social media site Ask.fm, discussing his desire to undergo a full FTM transition and expressing his gratitude for his mother's support.
“[My mom] was like, ‘Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much. She was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.’"
Although currently unable to transition Jay spoke of his desire to take the steps required.
“I believe I am a boy, and want surgery, and the medication to help me be who I was supposed to be,” Jay said.
“Being transgender, knowing that your [sic] a transgender, is not a phase. It’s like once you read about it and know that’s exactly how you feel, there’s no going back. It’s not a choice, it’s just a part of life.”
