Petition urges Amazon to drop Boy Scouts of America as a supported charity

LAST UPDATED // Friday, 23 May 2014 14:28 Written by // Cec Busby

Pascal Tessier, a 17-year-old member of the Eagle Scouts, has urged online giant Amazon to consider dropping the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as a charity customers can donate to via Amazon Smile, after the BSA ruled to exclude gay adults from serving as scout leaders in the organisation.

Tessier who is the first openly gay Eagle Scout member, started his petition online last month after the BSA excluded gay scoutmaster Geoffrey McGrath from their ranks and revoked his scout group’s charter from their ranks.

The petition has already received 125,000 signatures.

LGBTI rights advocates passed on the petition to Amazon earlier this week.

“We’re just asking [Amazon] to follow their own values and their own policies, because they’re good values and good policies,” McGrath told MSNBC. “We’re asking them to make themselves proud.”
