OII releases new resource on intersex issues
OII Australia and ACON have joined together to deliver a set of new resources to explain intersex to LGBT people and the broader community.
The three new resources aim to address a lack of awareness regarding the issues affecting intersex people. They provide general information about intersex issues, empower services to provide appropriate and sensitive care to intersex clients, and provide information and referrals to help parents of intersex children.
The resources will be available online and in print.
ACON’s CEO Nicolas Parkhill said ACON is thrilled to partner with OII Australia to develop these important resources.
“We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all LGBTI people and we believe these resources will benefit intersex people by building the capacity of organisations to better understand intersex, and deliver appropriate and sensitive care,” Parkhill said.
Morgan Carpenter, President of OII Australia who took the lead in developing the new resources, said OII was delighted to produce the new resource material.
“We are delighted to welcome these beautiful and timely resources to introduce intersex to people who are unfamiliar with intersex issues and help build a deeper understanding for people who know the basics. We would like to thank ACON for its work with us to create and distribute these resources."
Intersex for Allies explains intersex issue for a broad audience, Making your Service Intersex Friendly provides a guide for service providers to make their services intersex incluisve and the final resource is a guide for parents of intersex children, Your Beautiful Child.
The resources are available online from OII Australia at www.oii.org.au and in print from ACON.
