Obama snubs Sochi Olympics

LAST UPDATED // Thursday, 19 December 2013 09:49 Written by // Cec Busby

The White House has announced neither the President or Vice President will be attending the Sochi Olympics. Former White House staffer, Janet Napokitano will head up the delegation – two out lesbian athletes, Billie Jean King and Caitlin Chow will join her.

The President cited scheduling conflicts as his reason for not attending.

White House officials have attempted to play down the snub, saying:

“All our delegation members are distinguished by their accomplishments in government service, civic activism, and sports. We are proud of each and every one of them and think they will serve as great ambassadors of the United States to the Olympic Games.”

On Monday the French President, Francois Hollande, announced he would not be attending the Sochi Olympics.
