Obama moves to protect LGBT Federal Contractors from workplace discrimination
President Barack Obama plans to sign an Executive Order protecting LGBT employees of federal contractors from workplace discrimination.
Currently there is no federal law in the States that forbids anti-LGBT discrimination in the workplace.
With the White House's broader Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) stalled in the House of Represenatives, activists have been urging Obama to sign the Order which would protect people who work for federal contractors.
The Order aims to protect federal contractors in 50 states; 29 states have no protection for LGBT people.
ENDA was passed in the Senate in November 2013, with the House yet to vote.
