Obama appoints NBA's first openly gay player to key admin post

The NBA's first openly gay basketball player Jason Collins has been appointed by President Obama to the President's Council on Fitness Sports and Nutrition.

Collins currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets and was featured in TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential People of 2014.

A statement from the White House praised Collins' achievements mentioning his work with the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network to ensure safe schools for all students.
