A catholic priest in Northern Ireland who showed gay pornographic images during a Holy Communion presentation will not be prosecuted after it was found no crime was committed.

Father Martin McVeigh was giving a PowerPoint presentation about the ceremony to parents in the grade school of Pomeroy, County Tyrone, when the 16 images appeared on the screen.

The leader of the Catholic Church in Ireland Sean Brady released a statement claiming McVeigh had no knowledge of the images prior to the presentation.

"Inappropriate imagery was inadvertently shown by a priest at the beginning of a PowerPoint presentation,” Brady said in the statement.

"The archdiocese immediately sought the advice of the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) who indicated that, on the basis of the evidence available, no crime had been committed."

"The priest is cooperating with an investigation of the matter on the part of the archdiocese."

Local police have since spoken to reporters confirming that the church has contacted them regarding the incident.

"The incident has been reported to us, we have advised that no criminal offences have been disclosed at this time… and anything else is a matter for the CCMS (Council for Catholic Maintained Schools) or the diocese,” the police spokesperson said.

The church is continuing its internal investigation of the case but parents who witnessed the presentation are demanding more action be taken.
