MELBOURNE: Gay radio station JOY 94.9 has secured a grant of $10,000 from the City of Yarra to investigate the needs of older GLTBI Yarra residents.

The grant comes from Yarra’s Community Strengthening stream.

JOY 94.9 President, David McCarthy said the study is a first for JOY and will provide valuable information to assist the council in planning sensitive and appropriate GLBTI aged care services.

The study commences in February 2012 and continues for 40 weeks and targets an estimated 400 members of the GLTBI community aged 50 years and over.
The study will be conducted in partnership with the City of Yarra, health and community service providers, GLBTI venues, and key GLTBI organisations.

McCarthy said engagement with existing older GLBTI groups, in particular Matrix Guild, Vintage Men and Boilers Society is critical to the project.

Regular updates on the study will be via JOY on-air programs and website.

I wanted to open an aged caring service for LGBTI ,and it was pointed out to me that Gays don't like to admit they are getting old.
