Shocked angers fans with anti-gay rant
Singer Michelle Shocked has outraged fans by launching into an anti-gay rant during a concert in San Francisco.
The former self-styled “anarchist skateboard punk” who now describes herself as a born-again Christian, told the crowd that if Proposition 8* were overturned, it would mean the end of civilisation.
"When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilisation, and Jesus will come back," Shocked said.
"You are going to leave here and tell people, 'Michelle Shocked said God hates faggots'."
The management of the venue Yoshi's tried to stop the concert, but Shocked continued performing until staff pulled the plug and killed the stage lights, by which time many of the audience had walked out.
Numerous audience members tweeted their anger, including comments like “She’s a total bigot and said so on stage” and “It was unreal, we had to leave”.
Venues in Illinois, California, Oregon, Washington state and Colorado have cancelled upcoming concerts as a result, meaning 10 of her 11 tour dates have been pulled so far.
So far Shocked has not responded except by tweeting "Truth is leading to painful confrontation."
*Proposition 8 is the controversial voter referendum which overturned California’s marriage equality laws in 2008.

Once again, the "Gospel Truth" leads another poor soul, who was apparently an intelligent free spirit in the past down a path of total self-destruction. I can hardly think of a better example of Nietzsche's slave religion theory in action. At some point, for reasons we can only wonder about, Michelle Shocked decided that it's better to subscribe to self-loathing, hatred and enslavement to the Higher Authorities and now unfortunately has that undeniably Christian impulse to project her resentment onto the world around her. How classically tragic. Once I would have pitied the likes of her, but I can't be bothered wasting the mental energy.
