It’s that time of year again - nominate people for saying the most ridiculous, outrageous and ignorant things about LGBTI people.

Yes, nominations for the GLORIAs (Gay & Lesbian Outrageous, Ridiculous and Ignorant comment Awards) are open for the fourth year.

Founded by NSW Labor MLC Penny Sharpe, the GLORIAs expose those who have said the most abhorrent things about LGBTI people and their families in the last 12 months.

Every day GLBTI people and their families are subject to homophobic and transphobic comments from people in public life,” Sharpe said.

"These awards are a chance to turn the tables and put the focus back on to those people making discriminatory comments.”

There are six categories in which people can be nominated: Media, Sport, Politics/Law, Religion, Silliest GLBTI and International.

Sharpe said she expected politics to feature prominently again.

Nominations already include Paramatta Lord Mayor John Chedid who asked that youth support group Twenty10 remove "offensive" signs at a community fair day.

Paramatta councillor Paul Garrard has also been nominated for coming to the mayor's defence with the line, "[Twenty10] shouldn't have been there, in the same fashion Right to Life weren't there."

Unsurprisingly, disgraced Katter's Australia Party candidate Tess Corbett has also been nominated for her statement linking gays and lesbians to paedophiles.

Nobel Prize winner and former president of Poland Lech Walesa has been nominated in the International category for saying LGBTI people had no right to play a prominent role in politics.

In the Religion category, Family Voice Australia has been nominated for its open letter to NSW premier Barry O'Farrell regarding the Proud Schools program.

In line with previous years, the Golden GLORIA will be chosen by a "boo-off" on the awards night.

The awards ceremony, hosted by David Marr, will take place at 6pm on May 8 at NSW Parliament House

"Nominations are open until April 26," Sharpe said.

"If you have heard or read something that offended or annoyed you, please nominate it through the GLORIAs website www.theglorias.com.au."
