Hanson disses gay marriage
Politician Pauline Hanson butted heads with radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O this week over the issue of LGBTI rights.
Disagreeing that same-sex couples should have the right to marry or adopt children or access IVF treatments, Hanson made an incoherent plea invoking those who discovered Australia and the Diggers.
''It's wonderful that people have opinions and views on these things but the hard fact is, at the end of the day, someone's got to pay the price for all this," Hanson said.
"People have to understand what happened in the past to discover this land; the Diggers that fought for us.''
When Hanson said gay marriage would lead to same-sax couple being allowed to adopt children, Jackie O responded "But they should have the right, Pauline."
''But then you look at the child. Have they been asked? You have a man, and then you have a woman that's what it's all about. You think of the children as well," Hanson responded.
Hanson has made her position clear in the past. In 2007 she said in an interview that "The children should have two parents, mum and dad" but also claimed that she had never "come out against homosexuals".
Some years before, she issued a statement saying the Uniting Church should not cover the Mardi Gras Parade in its Sunday Morning Swordfish TV program because Mardi Gras was an "R rated program".
"GAY INFILTRATION of the Uniting Church has a lot to do with the fact members are deserting in droves," the statement claimed.
"As far as I am concerned, if it is legal and in private, what consenting adults do is their own business, but I will not accept any other actions that further breakdown the already embattled family unit," she said.

Pauline's comments are sad. "If it is in private, what consenting adults do is their own business"? It's never been "private" when queer people are publicly vilified.
