Dykes on Bikes Sydney have announced a “ride scholarship” to help young same-sex attracted women to get their motorcycle licence.

The scholarship in conjunction with Club Five Dock RSL will assist young women financially to cover the costs involved with training and applying for a licence.

Dykes on Bikes President, Nic Fletcher said, "It's become a lot more expensive and time consuming getting a licence than when I got mine. We wanted to find a way to help some young dyke get on the road, so we came up with the scholarship."

Targeted towards women below the age of 30, the scholarship would cover the basic costs, including: the Stay Upright course; the RTA fee for the theory test; a pre-probationary training course; and the final RTA assessment.

Whoever receives the scholarship would also have the benefit of learning from experienced riders through participation with Dykes on Bikes, Sydney. Dykes on Bikes are also willing to help the recipient organise suitable protective equipment and find an appropriate motorcycle or scooter.

Young Dykes or Lesbians who are interested in applying for the scholarship should visit the Dykes on Bikes website www.dykesonbikessdydney.org.au or contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.

Applications will close on March 1, 2012.
