Trans group car wash a shining example
If your car looked sparklingly clean on December 8, you may have had it washed by Many Genders One Voice, a Healthy Communities Trans* Health Action Group, which held a fundraising cash wash outside Number 29 Cruise Club in Fortitude Valley.
One Voicers washed over 40 cars and raised $500; that same night TBar – a Trans* inclusive dance party – kindly donated $200 to the action group.
Many Genders One Voice would like to thank Number 29 for the free use of their venue, TBar for their donation and support at the car wash and all the volunteers who helped on the day.
Community support for the car wash was amazing, with cars lined up half way up the street to get in.
Car wash coordinator Patrick said: “The car wash gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling for how great the community was in supporting the event. The event was a positive way to bring community together and create visibility.”
Many Genders One Voice will have a planning day in the new year to decide how to best spend the money with the aim of raising the communities awareness of Trans* and Gender Diverse people’s health issues such as the closure of the free gender clinics on the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and in Brisbane.
