Chaz Bono quashes rumours of Cher appearance at Sydney Mardi Gras
There will be no surprise visit from Cher at this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras celebrations, the pop singer’s transgender son has confirmed.
Speaking with AAP, 44-year-old Chaz Bono, who is in Sydney taking part in Mardi Gras festivities, said on Tuesday his mum is in the United State preparing for her tour.
When asked by APP if there was any chance Cher would make a surprise appearance in Sydney, Bono said there was “none whatsoever”.
“She’s getting ready to go on tour in March,” Bono said. “She’s in rehearsals and working hard.”
Rumours of Cher’s appearance at the festival have been stoked not only by Bono’s inclusion in the program, but also by a tribute video to the pop icon commissioned by Sydney Mardi Gras.
The video, featuring popular Sydney drag queens and over a hundred volunteer dancers, recreate the singer’s 1989 hit, ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’.
Speculation was fanned by Cher’s endorsement of the clip on Twitter.
“WHAT COULD BE MORE FABULOUS THAN A CHER-OFF ... YOU HAVE MY BLESSING !! RIP IT UP AUSSIE BOYS ... @SydneyMardiGras,” Cher tweeted.
Comment is being sought from Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
