Call out for Rovers

LAST UPDATED // Friday, 31 January 2014 09:28 Written by // Ron Hughes

ACON are looking for volunteers to be Rovers at this year's Mardi Gras parties.

Rovers are trained and supervised volunteers who help out party-goers in many ways: providing water, band-aids, ear plugs and sunscreen; giving accurate drug and alcohol advice and encouraging people to take a break and cool down; providing directions and looking after lost property; and helping people in distress to get medical attention, among other things.

ACON Rovers are not part of the Security team, they are only interested in people's health.

Of course, as a Rover you'll get free entry to the parties like Harbour Party, Underbear, Mardi Gras Party, Laneway Party and Wonderland and you'll be gaining invaluable knowledge and skills you can use at any time.

The ACON Rovers attend major GLBT parties and events throughout the year including the Mardi Gras Party, Inquisition, Harbour Party, Underbear, Day Wash, Toy Box, Mardi Gras Laneway party and Tropical Fruits and have become much loved and well respected on the party scene.

If you'd like to volunteer, you must attend one of two training sessions. You can choose Tuesday February 4 from 6-9pm or Saturday February 8 from 6-9pm.

Training will take place in the ACON building in Surry Hills, just five minutes’ walk from Central Station.
