New Mexico same-sex couples line-up for mass wedding
Over a hundred gay and lesbian couples have lined up to get marriage licences in Bernalillo County New Mexico after District Court Judge Alan Malott ruled same sex marriage was legal in the state and prohibiting it was unconstitutional.
According to the Associated Press, the first couple to receive their marriage licence was Patricia Catlett, 61, a graphic designer, and her partner of 25 years, Karen Schmiege, 69, a retired librarian — received their license in Bernalillo County.
By midday close to a hundred couples converged on the Albuquerque Civic Plaza for a mass wedding.
