New CEO for Positive Life

LAST UPDATED // Friday, 14 February 2014 15:52 Written by // Cec Busby

Positive Life NSW has announced the appointment of Craig Cooper as the new Chief Executive Officer of the organisation. Cooper will come on board from March 17 replacing outgoing CEO, Sonny Williams.

Cooper enters the organisation at a busy time. Positive Life is in the midst of their Choose Life campaign which highlights the advantages being on HIV treatment can bring to the outcomes of those living with HIV. The campaign was launched in December to coincide with World AIDS day.

The campaign asks people with HIV who aren’t on treatment to think seriously about their choices on starting treatment and is appearing across multiple media channels during 2014.

Recent statistics show that maybe as few as 50% of all people diagnosed with HIV in Australia are currently receiving treatment.

Positive Life hopes to educate people living with HIV on the benefits of obtaining early treatment  Modern HIV treatments are now much safer, easier to take and highly effective at suppressing the virus. Someone on treatment with an undetectable viral load is also far less likely to pass on HIV to their HIV negative sexual partners.
