Watch: Archival clips from the 70s on gay rights

LAST UPDATED // Monday, 09 June 2014 10:40 Written by // Cec Busby

Since it's Gay Pride month we thought it was time to take a look back at the archives and share some footage from the '70s of people campaigning for 'homosexual' rights.

These cilips assembled by SuchIsLife Videos show how far we've come in 40 years.

Note how the vernacular has changed. Imagine anyone calling themslelves homosexual in an interview today.

The assembled clips start with the first gay pride parade in 1970.

All American gay rights videos - it would be useful if you made reference these being American, for all the similarities there are many differences in Australian LGBTI history, not least that the American (homophile) history significantly pre-dates stonewall and the 'first pride parade'. There is wonderful clips of Australian LGBTI history out there, such as Lex Watson having piss thrown at him during a Monday Conference episode shot at Mt Isa in 1976.
