OII vice president Tony Briffa will marry long time partner, Manja, today in a ceremony in Dunedin New Zealand.

Briffa is a councillor and former Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Victoria.

A statement on OII’s website reads:

“We share Tony and Manja’s excitement! We hope that today is beautiful for both Tony and Manja and we wish them heartfelt best wishes for a wonderful future together.

Love and hugs from everyone in OII Australia.”

Briffa was born in Victoria in 1970 with Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (PAIS) and Tony’s birth certificate does not state a sex. Marriage in Australia is currently only permissible between a man and a woman, and Tony is not eligible.

OII says: “Tony is able to marry in New Zealand because legislation providing marriage equality was passed earlier this year. Tony has had to declare an “indeterminate” gender for the purposes of today’s marriage.”

SX wish Tony and Manja all the best for the future.
