Following its successful debut season last year, production is now underway in Melbourne for a second season of the comedy-drama Please Like Me.

Created, written, co-produced by and starring the openly gay, Australian comedian Josh Thomas, Please Like Me was ABC2’s highest rating comedy series, winning the award for Best Television Comedy or Light Entertainment Series at last month's Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards.

The show received rave reviews from The New Yorker, TIME, Entertainment Weekly and the LA Times following its debut on US TV last year. This month it was nominated by the US LGBT media advocacy organisation GLAAD for the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

With 10 episodes series two continues Thomas's story after coming out to his parents, gaining and then losing a boyfriend and moving back in with his bipolar mother after her suicide attempt.

New cast members for season two include lesbian comedian Hannah Gadsby and TV icon Denise Drysdale.

Season two of Please Like Me will screen in Australia and the US later this year.
