Happy Valentine's and International Condom Day
Youth Empowerment Against HIV/AIDS (YEAH) are taking the safe sex message to the streets on Valentine's Day with a flashmob as Friday February 14 is also International Condom Day.
This will be YEAH's second annual flashmob and groups of YEAH volunteers and sexual health peer educators will gather in Darwin, Adelaide and Melbourne to hand out condoms and engage passers-by in sexual health discussions.
With approximately 80 per cent of all nationally reported STIs occurring amongst young people, sexual health promotion and education is essential and YEAH CEO Alischa Ross says Valentine’s Day and International Condom Day are perfect partners.
“For many, Valentines Day isn’t just about sending someone you fancy a romantic card or receiving red roses, it’s about picking up. We think it’s important to link messages about healthy relationships, love and safe sex with this publicly celebrated day” she said.
Look out for the YEAH volunteers in ‘I love safe sex’ gear and carrying special Valentine’s Day balloons at Melbourne's Southbank Spillway between 4 and 4.30pm this Valentine’s Day. Other flashmobs will take place at the same time at Darwin's Casuarina Square and the Adelaide Train Station.
