One of Australia’s highest-profile trans* women will be featured on the ABC’s Australian Story on February 24.

Call Me Cate tells the story of Lieutenant-Colonel Cate McGregor, a former political strategist and journalist who is now a senior Army Officer and speechwriter to Army chief Lieutenant-General David Morrison.

After living five decades as a man named Malcolm and working for both Liberal leader John Hewson and Labor leader Bob Carr, Morrison hit the headlines in November 2012 when she became the highest ranking member of the defence force to come out as trans*.

“When I came out to the army, I said I would not be commenting on my transsexuality,” McGregor told The Sunday Telegraph at the time.

“But I’ve been treated with enormous decency. I’ve been humbled by my colleagues.”

Now she will feature in the ABC’s much respected biographical program, introduced by Prime Minister Tony Abbott and featuring Lt-Gen David Morrison, Liberal pollster Mark Textor and political journalist Barrie Cassidy who talk about Morrison’s transition and the impact it has had on them.

Australian Story: Call Me Cate airs on Monday February 24 at 8pm on ABC1.
