Author, coach and social entrepreneur Anthony Venn-Brown has been awarded a lifetime membership of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association (SGLBA) following this month’s AGM.

Venn-Brown, a former evangelist, was awarded for his work with the LGBT community including the creation of the Ambassadors and Bridge Builders International (ABBI) and founding Freedom2b.

“Ambassadors & Bridge Builders International’s mission is to create a better world for LGBT people and end the unnecessary suffering caused by ignorance and misinformation about sexual orientation and gender diversity,” Venn-Brown told the SGLBA.

“This will be done by empowering LGBT community members, education, bridge building activities with Christian leaders and churches, providing resources and media/social networking activities.

“I learned a lot creating and running Freedom2b for six years. Ambassadors & Bridge Builders International has its challenges but I’m confident that with the support of individuals and my community those will be overcome.”

Venn-Brown added that the lifetime membership is one of the ways that people can say thank you for the work of others.

“I think everyone who gives so much back to the LGBT community does it not for recognition we do it because it’s important to make a difference,” he said.

“Over the years I have found many clients who I have worked with to create greater success in their personal and professional lives and businesses. I have also made friends, three of which are now my board members.

“Receiving recognition like this though is a boost and always encouraging.”

Congratulations Anthony. You most assuredly do deserve this recognition. You have certainly come a long way since your earlier years when you threw off the life of the closet and broke forth into a freedom to be yourself. It's been a hell of a journey. It's wonderful to see the community recognise your tireless efforts in promoting the integrity of the LGBT life and offering support and encouragement to those in it of a Christian faith. Well done mate. We all owe you a debt of gratitude.
