Sydney flight attendant's body found
The body of missing Sydney flight attendant Ben Roper has been found in the basement of his Randwick home.
Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.
The discovery this afternoon comes after an extensive search sparked by a social media campaign.
However, a police spokesperson could not confirm to SX whether the basement area of the apartment block where Roper was found had been searched previously.
The 32-year-old was last seen by family at his home about 7pm on Saturday, January 26.
Friends initially became concerned when he posted a message on Facebook during the evening of Australia Day revealing the extent of his back pain from a previous injury, saying he was "sick of it".
According to his family, Roper was very well-liked both in the eastern suburbs community as well as the local gay community after he came out six years ago.
Earlier today, Roper's family members informed SX that the Virgin employee had never gone missing before, while his mother told media this morning that the popular flight attendant had been the victim of recent homophobic threats.
Police will now prepare a report for the coroner outlining the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police and Roper’s family have expressed their thanks to the media and the public for their assistance.
